gold and nickel ore processing

    Gold extraction Wikipedia

3/4/2005· Gold extraction refers to the processes required to extract gold from its ores. This may require a combination of comminution, mineral processing, hydrometallurgical, and pyrometallurgical processes to be performed on the ore.. Gold mining from alluvium ores was once achieved by techniques associated with placer mining such as simple gold

The mined ore is usually crushed into small chunks and heaped on an impermeable plastic or clay lined leach pad where it can be irrigated with a leach solution to dissolve the valuable metals. While sprinklers are occasionally used for irrigation, more often operations use drip irrigation to minimize evaporation, provide more uniform distribution of the leach solution, and avoid damaging the exposed mineral. While sprinklers are occasionally used for irrigation, more often operations use drip irrigation to minimize evaporation, provide more uniform distribution of the leach solution, and avoid damaging the exposed mineral. The solution then percolates through the heap and leaches both the target and other minerals. This process, called the "leach cycle," generally takes from one or two months for simple oxide ores (e.g. most gold ores) to two years for nickel laterite ores. The leach solution containing the dissolved minerals is then collected, treated in a process plant to recover the target mineral and in some cases precipitate other minerals, and recycled to the heap after reagent levels are adjusted. Ultimate recovery of the target mineral can range from 30% of contained run-of-mine dump leaching sulfide copper ores to over 90% for the ores that are easiest to leach, some oxide gold ores. The essential questions to address during the process of the heap leaching are: • Can the investment of crushing the ore be justified by the potential increase in recovery and rate of recovery?• How should the concentration of acid be altered over time in order to produce a solution that can be economically treated?• How does the form of a heap affect the recovery and solution grade?• Under any given set of circumstances, what type of recovery can be expected before the leach solution quality drops below a critical limit?

Nickel Mining and Processing: Everything you Need to Know

The Nickel Mining Process. Nickel mining occurs through extractive metallurgy, which is a material science that covers various types of ore, the washing process, concentration and separation, chemical processes and the extraction process. One of the most well-known purification processes is called the Mond Process, which is an extracting and purifying process

IntroductionPropertiesHistoryFormationResourcesMiningProcessingThe processing of gold ore involves crushing, treatment with chemicals, melting (smelting) and further purification. It is then poured into moulds where it cools and hardens as gold bars called 'bullion', which make the gold easy to stack and transport. The first stage of processing gold ore is crushing. The gold then needs to be separated from the resultant powder. Coarse gold may be removed by gravity concentration. Thepowder is mixed with water, the gold sinks and the other wastes are washed away. F

Gold processing Mining and concentrating Britannica

Gold processing Gold processing Mining and concentrating: The nature of the ore deposit determines the mining and mineral processing techniques applied. Oxide ore deposits are frequently of such low grade (e.g., 3 to 10 parts per million) that extensive mineral processing cannot economically be justified. In this case they are merely shattered by explosives and then piled into heaps for

Processing. After mining, nickel ores are further processed to upgrade their nickel contents from 1-4% typical of the ores to concentrates with grades in the range 10-20%. Concentration involves crushing the ore and separating nickel-bearing from other minerals using various physical and chemical processing methods. The concentrates are then smelted (in a furnace) to produce a sulfide ‘matte

With ores of higher gold content (greater than 20 grams of gold per tonne of ore), cyanidation is accomplished by vat leaching, which involves holding a slurry of ore and solvent in large tanks equipped with agitators. For extracting gold from low-grade ores, heap leaching is practiced; huge heaps are sprayed with a dilute solution of sodium cyanide, and this percolates down through the piled

Nickel processing Nickel processing Extraction and refining: The extraction of nickel from ore follows much the same route as copper, and indeed, in a number of cases, similar processes and equipment are used. The major differences in equipment are the use of higher-temperature refractories and the increased cooling required to accommodate the higher operating temperatures in nickel

Gold Processing Methods & Gold Ore Extraction

25/3/2018· Of all the methods of extracting gold & processing it from its ore, I used a few to evaluate two principal flowsheets in this case study. The flowsheets utilized operations that involved flotation, cyanidation and gravity concentration. Tests that mirror each of these unit operations were utilized to evaluate the principal flowsheets. This page offers a comparative review of gold recovery

In cyanidation, metallic gold is oxidised and dissolved in an alkaline cyanide solution. When gold dissolution is complete, the gold-bearing solution is separated from the solids. With ores of higher gold content (greater than 20 grams of gold per tonne of ore), cyanidation is accomplished by vat leaching, which involves holding a slurry of ore and solvent in large tanks equipped with agitators.

25/3/2018· The gravity/flotation flowsheet with cyanidation of the respective concentrates recovered between 30 and 77% of the gold in feed, with an average of about 59 percent across all eight lithology composites. Whole-of-ore CIL extracted between 28 and 79 percent of the gold in feed, with an average of about 61 percent. These results would indicate there is some degree of refractory gold, which
