    Ore processing Waihi Gold

Ore is stockpiled (1) at the processing plant, and the process begins by feeding the ore into a hopper with a loader. The ore is conveyed, and lime is added (2) to raise the pH of the ore. Following crushing through a jaw crusher (3), the ore is fed into the semi autogenous grinding (SAG) mill (4) along with water and steel balls. The grinding process reduces the rock to a slurry.

Grinding Mineral Processing

The fineness of the ore particles produced by grinding is crucial to recover the minerals by flotation. The most common grinding machines are semi-automatic (SAG) and automatic (AG) mills and ball mills. Grinding size. Determining an optimal grinding size can maximize the recovery of target minerals in the subsequent flotation process. The grinding size is too large, and some ore particles and

Mineral processing can involve four general types of unit operation: comminution particle size reduction; sizing separation of particle sizes by screening or classification; concentration by taking advantage of physical and surface chemical properties; and dewatering solid/liquid separation. In all of these processes, the most important considerations are the economics of the processes and this is dictated by the grade and recovery of the final product. To do this, the mineralogy of the ore needs to be considered as this dictates the amount of liberation required and the processes that can occur. The smaller the particles processes, the greater the theoretical grade and recovery of the final product, but this however is difficult to do with fine particles as they prevent certain concentration processes from occurring. Comminution is particle size reduction of materials. Comminution may be carried out on either dry materials or slurries. Crushing and grinding are the two primary comminution processes. Crushing is normally carried out on "run-of-mine" ore, while grinding (normally carried out after crushing) may be conducted on dry or slurried material. In comminution, the size reduction of particles is done by three types of forces: compression, impact and attrition. Compression and impact forces are extensively used in crushing operations while attrition is the dominant force in grinding. The primarily used equipment in crushing are jaw crushers, gyratory crushers and cone crushers whereas rod mills and ball mills, usually closed circuited with a classifier unit, are generally employed for grinding purposes in a mineral processing plant. Crushing is a dry process whereas grinding is generally performed wet and hence is more energy intensive. Sizing is the general term for separation of particles according to their size. The simplest sizing process is screening, or passing the particles to be sized through a screen or numb

In the self-grinding process, the ore larger than 100 mm in the mill acts as a grinding medium. The ore material with less than 80 mm and more than 20 mm has poor grinding ability, and it is not easily broken by large ore materials, sometimes When the material is crushed, a steel ball of about 4% to 8% of the volume of the mill is often added to the mill, which improves the grinding efficiency

Ore Processing Challenges in Gold Operation Grinding

Over-grinding does not have a significant benefit to gold recovery but reduces the mill throughput and results in higher unit costs in terms of energy, grinding media and reagent consumption. If there are frequent changes in ore hardness, grinding circuit performance is affected and poses challenges for operators to maintain the target particle size.

Grinding has been used to enhance gold liberation from the host sulfide-containing mineral or for particle-size optimization before oxidative pretreatments; however, when gold is encapsulated in a sulfide matrix, conventional grinding (P 80 = 75 μm) without a pretreatment usually does not result in improved gold recoveries in the leaching process. Ultra-fine grinding (P 80 ≤ 10 μm) has been proposed as an
